Pupillage in Lamb Building
Lamb Building is a non-OLPAS set. We have one recruitment round per year. The closing date for applications is 31st July for pupillage commencing in October of the following year.
We offer up to four funded pupillages each year. Our policy is to offer first six month pupillages which are usually extended for a second six months. Pupils generally have one supervisor for the first six and a different supervisor for the second six. We aim to allocate supervisors who practise in the areas of particular interest to our pupils, however a degree of flexibility is always maintained to ensure that each pupil gets maximum exposure to the range of work in chambers. Each pupil is also allocated a link junior tenant with whom they may spend time as and when appropriate.
Each pupil will receive a £6000 award in the first six months and guaranteed earnings of £6000 in the second six months. Second six month pupils can expect to be in court every day, undertaking mainly criminal work.
We are committed to equal opportunities in the training of our pupils. We operate a structured pupillage training programme, including a residential weekend course at Cumberland Lodge. All our pupils attend the Middle Temple advocacy course.
Selection of pupils takes place in late September each year. Short-listed applicants are invited to a half-day session which will normally includes three interviews and a written exercise. Our aim is to make a decision on the day of the interviews (which we have achieved in recent years), without any second round.
