Araniya practices in criminal and immigration and asylum law.

She appears in the Magistrates' Court, Youth Court and Crown Court on behalf of defendants in a broad range of criminal matters and is developing a specialism in youth justice, having trained with the Youth Justice Legal Centre.

Araniya advises and represents appellants in the First-Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal in all areas of immigration and asylum law. She is especially interested in providing specialist representation for children in the immigration context, particularly unaccompanied minors.

BACKGROUND:

Prior to pupillage, Araniya worked as a Caseworker for a prominent MP, conducting advice sessions and undertaking immigration, housing and social security casework. This included working on a parliamentary strategy in response to the Home Office's handling of TOEIC cases. She also worked as a Paralegal focusing on strategic litigation at the award-winning charity, Just for Kids Law and as a volunteer caseworker at Bail for Immigration Detainees, where she prepared bail applications for detainees separated from their children and assisted at bail workshops in detention centres and prisons.

During pupillage, Araniya was supervised by Bernard Richmond QC, Geraldine Peterson and Sandra Akinbolu.
