Ryan tackles work across the whole criminal sphere. With his experience he has regularly been instructed in homicide cases, prosecuting as leading junior at trial multi-week cases of murder, attempted murder and manslaughter. Ryan also acts in cases relating to deaths caused by motor vehicles, serious violence, drugs importation and drugs supply as well as offences of fraud, fraudulent trading, proceeds of crime offences and modern slavery.

His work as an experienced RASSO advocate has led to his skills dealing with vulnerable and young defendants and witnesses, often working with intermediaries or supporters to ensure the best possible results are obtained in cases including rape and multi-defendant complex sexual abuse.  Ryan also has an excellent understanding of mental health conditions both through his criminal cases and through sitting as a judge of the Mental Health Review Tribunal.
