Lamb Building has a strong and busy criminal group with members practising at all levels from the Magistrates Court to the European Court of Human Rights. We have two silks (one of them also sitting as a recorder) and nine leading juniors. The group contributes extensively to Inns of Court advocacy training and to our own continuous professional development training programme. Members act pro bono in death row cases both overseas and before the Privy Council.
Our main focus is on criminal defence work, in which we have particular strengths in serious and complex fraud. The 2009 edition of Chambers UK recommends Ami Feder as ‘renowned for his work in complex commercial, revenue and general fraud cases’. Members have established new law in this area in cases before the Court of Appeal and House of Lords.
We have acted in many high profile cases involving allegations of terrorism, homicide, serious violence and organized crime. Recent examples include the Baby P case at the Old Bailey and Abdelgadir (attempted terrorist attack on London).
We provide representation in all types of criminal case. In addition to extensive experience in the core areas of criminal law, many of our members have niche practices in specialist areas as diverse as intellectual property offences and planning prosecutions. The combined expertise of the group means that chambers can provide the appropriate advocate in cases ranging from first appearances to the most serious trials on indictment. We also undertake prosecution work for the C.P.S. and other public authorities in all areas including environmental and regulatory offences. Lamb Building has been appointed to the specialist prosecution panels of over 20 local authorities.
Many of us also practise in the area of confiscation and asset recovery, a field in which our expertise in financial crime gives us a distinct advantage. Members of the group also act in other areas related to individual rights – see links to specific areas.
