Employment & Discrimination
Ed acts in the full range of employment and discrimination disputes and has 13 years’ experience in Employment Tribunal hearings from his work with trade unions. He has supervised dissertations on the Employment Law LLM at the University of Leicester and has addressed the Employment Law Bar Association on reform of the Equality Act 2010. In 2024, he was a member of multiple ELA working groups that contributed to the UK Government consultation on the Employment Rights Bill. He has appeared in the County Court and is a trained civil–commercial mediator.
Regulatory/Professional Discipline
Ed represents and advises across several professional disciplinary forums. He has 13 years’ experience defending professionals before the GMC, NMC and HCPC, including his time working for trade unions. He has prosecuted on behalf of the NMC, HCPC, TRA, GCC and SWE, including multiple appearances in the High Court. He has guest lectured on regulatory and public law at master’s level for Liverpool John Moores University and London Metropolitan University.
Sport
Ed acted pro bono in March 2022 for an amateur footballer in an appeal against a seven‑match suspension before the Football Association. In 2025–2026, he acts for the British Judo Association in Sports Resolutions proceedings.
Road Traffic
Ed frequently defends motorists facing penalty points or disqualification, with experience in both the Magistrates’ Court and the Crown Court.
Appellate Work
Ed has advised and appeared in numerous appeals. Highlights include:
- R v Donnelly EWCA Crim 1992, in which he secured a reduction of a custodial sentence for being concerned in the supply of cannabis from 14 months to nine months.
- R v Rova EWCA Crim 1168, in which he obtained a reduction of the combined sentence for multiple hotel burglaries, with a stated value exceeding £360,000, from five years eight months to two years six months.
- In Singha v Diamond DCO Limited (in CVA) EA-2024-000831‑DXA, in which the EAT (Lord Fairley) upheld two grounds of appeal, finding errors of law in the ET’s assessment of substantial adverse effect and the long‑term impact of the claimant’s mental impairment.
Direct Access
Ed is qualified to accept instructions directly from members of the public under the Public Access scheme.
Appointments
In July 2026, Ed was appointed by the Attorney General to the London C Panel of civil counsel for a five-year term commencing on 1 September 2026 and expiring on 31 August 2031. The appointment reflects his growing civil and public law practice and his experience advising and appearing in complex litigation

Further Professional Information
Before coming to the Bar, Ed worked within the students’ union and trade union movements. He was elected President of Cardiff University Students’ Union and later worked as an in‑house advocate for two trade unions. From 2018 to 2021, he co‑founded and presented Employment Rights Workshops, a social enterprise delivering employment rights education to 15–19‑year‑olds. In February 2021 he spoke at the Employment Law Bar Association on law reform to address socioeconomic disadvantage.
Interests
Ed enjoys football, live music, theatre, stand‑up comedy and quizzing. He is an Arsenal season ticket holder and has performed stand‑up at several open‑mic nights. He also captained a team on University Challenge in the 2009 series.
