Kris Berlevy was called to the Bar in 2002. He practices in all areas of criminal work up to and including the Court of Appeal. Additionally, Kris has significant expertise and experience dealing with Inquests and a varied range of public inquiry work. These include traffic commissioner inquiries, education law and public planning inquiries, together with planning enforcement prosecutions and appeals.

Kris deals with Hackney carriage and private hire appeals both for and against local authorities, together with a specialised practice in stalking protection orders, slavery and trafficking risk orders and closure orders together with premises and alcohol licensing work.

Kris is currently instructed in a risk of slavery and trafficking order application on behalf of commercial clients

Practice Areas

Cases

R v S & J: Kris defended a joint enterprise attempt murder in May 2025. The case concerned numerous cctv exhibits and multiple stands of legal argument around joint enterprise. Acquittal on attempt murder.

R v K; Kris recently defended a multiple count controlling and coercive behaviour, ABH and threats to kill. A boyfriend and girlfriend in a short-term toxic relationship who made mutiple cross-allegations of abuse and ill treatment against each other. Intermediary support for both sides throughout. The defendant was acquitted on all counts.

R v VW: Kris prosecuted a 27-count rape indictment in July 2025. The defendant was the estranged stepfather of the complainant who was a teenager at the time of the offences. Defendant was convicted on all counts.

R v M & N; prosecuting conspiracy to import class A and B drugs into UK. Cell site, geo-location and voluminous ANPR evidence.

Regulatory Crime

R v Ali (Salah): leading case on POCA pursuant to breaches of planning enforcement notices where the landlord illegally sublet subdivided properties in North London without planning permission deriving over £1m in rent.

Animal Welfare

Kris also takes instruction prosecuting and defending animal welfare cases and has done so over many years.

Local Government & Public Law

Alcohol licensing: sub- committee review and appeals to magistrates’ courts against licensing committee decisions.

Education appeals both the Governing Board and higher appeals.
