In a recent matter at Isleworth Crown Court, Robert Morton secured a community sentence on a high value drug importation case. Robert’s client had pleaded guilty to cannabis importation, having been stopped at Heathrow attempting to bring two suitcases of cannabis into the country. The total street value of the cannabis was estimated by the Crown to be in the region of £1.1 million. Following Robert’s sentencing submissions, HHJ Paneth took what she described as the ‘unusual step’ of suspending the 10-month sentence, noting that the ordinary course of action would be immediate custody.
